Editor Basics - Camera

Let’s take a look at the 3Dstoryteller Studio Camera. In this guide, we will review camera controls.

To get started, let’s open an existing project or create a new one using the Dashboard. Feel free to reference our Dashboard guide if you need a quick refresher.

In the center of your screen is the Viewport. The Viewport displays the content of your story, from the Camera’s point of view.

3Dstoryteller Studio is a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor. This means that anything shown in the viewport will be displayed in the final story as-is.

The Viewport allows you to control the camera to stage your scenes, much as a director would on a movie set.

To begin moving the camera, all you need to do is hold the right mouse button down over the Viewport and drag the cursor to change the camera angle. Neat!

Additionally, while holding the right-mouse button, you can use the WASD keys on your keyboard to move the camera forward (W), backward (S), left (A), or right (D).

Notice in the screenshot above we have moved the Camera closer to the subject for a close-up, but are too low to see his face. Let’s use the Camera widget to raise the camera.

Click and drag on the first icon in the widget bar to raise or lower the camera and setup the close-up. That’s better!

You can also set the Camera angle using the middle widget button, as well as zooming in/out with the third widget button.

Finally, you can select the Camera from the Chapter Assets pane on the left and fine-tune its position using the Properties pane on the right.

In our next guide, we’ll take a deeper look at Chapter Assets and how they can bring your story to life.
